The Ukrainian pilots arrived in the United States to undergo an assessment of their skills in piloting combat aircraft, including F-16 fighters.
Specifically, two pilots will be trained on simulators at a military base in Tucson, Arizona. Authorities have approved the transfer of 10 more Ukrainian pilots to the United States to undergo a similar assessment later this month. The main goal is to improve the skills of the pilots and determine the duration of the required training. It is reported by NBC.
The program is aimed at assessing their ability as pilots so that we can better advise them on how to use the opportunities provided to them, the American official said.
Washington also noted that this is not a training program, and Ukrainian pilots will not fly aircraft during their stay in the United States. Air Force pilots will use a simulator that can simulate the flight of different types of aircraft.
It is also noted that now the Pentagon does not have any plans to transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
Recall, US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said that the United States of America is discussing the possibility of supplying Ukraine with fighter jets, in particular, as part of meeting Ukraine’s long-term needs. We are talking about American fighters of the fourth (F-14, F-15 and F-16) and fifth (F-22 and F-35) generations.
