In Belgium, at the expense of the European Commission, 50 sapper dogs will be trained to help clear mines in Ukraine.
The first group of animals, including nine dogs trained to search for explosives, has already been handed over to Ukrainian specialists, the demining battalion operating as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On this day, March 3, reports “Polish Radio”.
Today we are donating the first nine dogs specially trained to search for explosives to help clear mines in Ukraine. In October of this year we will transfer the following dogs. Finally, by the end of the next year, in 2024, we will hand over 50 sapper dogs to help clear mines in Ukraine,” said Eva Modelevska, representative of the European Commission in Poland.
The dogs donated to Ukraine are mostly Belgian Shepherds.
This project is implemented by the Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission.
