The President of Latvia emphasized that only Ukraine can draft peace terms acceptable to it.
Latvian President Egils Levits expressed support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s peace plan. The politician said this on Friday, March 3, at a briefing in Lviv after negotiations with the Ukrainian leader.
“The peace formula is what will make it possible to create a lasting peace based on the norms of international law. Peace will mean the complete territorial integrity of Ukraine. Russia must return to internationally recognized borders, ” said Levitts.
The President said that Latvia allocated more than 1 percent of GDP in support of Ukraine, and this was only for military aid.
“This is a priority for us, because in the next months Ukraine will face decisive battles and we certainly support Ukraine in these times,” he stressed, adding that the country continues to work on the supply of various equipment and military equipment in Kiev.
The politician noted that Latvia is helping Ukraine in support of European integration reforms. According to Levits, Ukraine also has the right to join NATO.
The President of Latvia also assured that he would support the idea of a special tribunal for Russia. At the same time, according to him, it is necessary to create legislative legal bases for the use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation for the restoration of Ukraine.
As reported, the presidents of Ukraine and Latvia met today in Lvov.
