Lukashenka helps Russia avoid sanctions – ISW

Analysts noted that earlier the official head of the country said that now the Republic of Belarus can produce weapons.

The self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko may facilitate Sino-Russian sanctions avoidance schemes during an official visit to Beijing. This is stated in the report of analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

As an example, experts cited a Deutsche Welle quote that Lukashenka will sign a package of agreements on the development of joint projects, trade, economy, investment, humanitarian cooperation and political cooperation with China during the trip.

Before that, the official head of the Republic of Belarus said that the defense industry of Belarus can produce weapons, because the country has access to microelectronics, optics and components imported from other states.

ISW also cited the words of Ukrainian intelligence representatives that Lukashenko had already helped Putin get weapons for the war against Ukraine, providing artillery ammunition from Belarusian warehouses.

During his visit to China, Lukashenka said that Russia is ready to take steps towards a peaceful settlement and an end to the war against Ukraine. In addition, according to him, the West and the United States “forced” Ukrainian officials to abandon negotiations with the Russian Federation.

Analysts explain that this information campaign is intended to encourage Western officials to offer preemptive concessions and force Ukraine to negotiate on Russia’s terms. This may have contributed to the delay in the provision of Western tanks and other equipment needed to continue Ukrainian mechanized counteroffensives.

Remember, on February 28, Lukashenka arrived on a state visit to China.
