The Kremlin said that despite statements about their willingness to “remain in contact,” the leaders of France and Germany are not.
The leaders of France and Germany have not initiated contacts with Vladimir Putin for a long time. This was said in an interview with the Russian propaganda publication Izvestiya, published on Tuesday, February 28, by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov.
“We have heard many statements by Scholz and Macron, who said that they will continue to contact Putin to find some way and way out of the situation. However, there have been no initiatives recently. We have heard five or six statements by Macron about his readiness to call Putin and talk, but everyone should know this: there are no requests, orientation or elaboration of possible terms for such a conversation,” he said.
According to him, Putin allegedly remains open to any contacts “that could help Russia achieve its own goals in one way or another.”
“Preferably peacefully, at the negotiating table, but when it is not possible, and through military means, what we are seeing now,” said Peskov.
It will be recalled that the media recently claimed that Macron and Scholz in February of this year, during a trilateral meeting in Paris, called on President Vladimir Zelensky for peace talks with Russia.
