The width of the border strip with Russia and Belarus does not mean two kilometers everywhere. It depends on the terrain and directions of the threat.
Ukraine will expand the border between Russia and Belarus to two kilometers in width. All this territory is mine and a special regime will operate it. This was stated by the spokesman of the State Border Service, Andriy Demchenko, RBC-Ukraine reports on Monday, February 27.
He recalled that last week the Verkhovna Rada adopted a relevant bill by its decision.
“A simplified procedure for the allocation of land in a strip up to two kilometers wide has been determined – it is on the border with the aggressor country and Belarus. And the activities of the Defense Forces in wartime and peacetime is controlled,” said Demchenko.
According to him, a de facto border border was established along the border line, where a special land use regime would work. Mining will be carried out in this territory, as well as the renovation of engineering, technical and defense structures.
“The border strip is usually 30-50 meters in all sections of the state border, and with Russia and Belarus this strip is up to two kilometers,” explained Demchenko.
He added that two kilometers are not necessary everywhere. It depends on the terrain and directions of the threat. And the special regime does not mean that local residents will be evicted. Special permits will be issued for movement and activities in these areas. The mechanism for issuing them is still being worked out.
Recall that the Ukrainian military will regularly conduct exercises on the border with Belarus. They practice countering enemy air attacks and destroying DRGs.
