Fox News anchor Howard Kurtz said the network prevented him from reporting on Dominion Voting Systems’ lawsuit against the network over its coverage of the 2020 election.
“Some of you have asked me why I’m not covering the Dominion Voting Machines v. Fox lawsuit involving baseless claims of voter fraud in 2020, and that’s an absolutely fair question,” Kurtz said on “Mediabuzz” Sunday.
“I think I should cover it. It’s an important story for the media, given my role here at Fox. But the company has decided that as part of the aforementioned organization, I can’t talk or write about it, at least for now. I strongly disagree with this decision, but as an employee I must respect it. And if it changes, I’ll let you know.”
Fox News, whose anchors regularly rail against censorship, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Earlier this month, court filings revealed text messages that Dominion said were sent by senior Fox News executives and prominent guests. The lyrics suggested that the network’s talent and decision makers didn’t believe the false claims of voter fraud they were amplifying on air.
Tucker Carlson, for example, reportedly called the Trump campaign’s election grievances “ridiculous” and “totally messed up” in private message exchanges. At one point, Sean Hannity called those who promoted the lies “crazy.” And Raj Shah, senior vice president of Fox Corporation, reportedly described the election fraud allegations as “crazy as hell.”
The celebrity hosts named in the documents have remained silent on the allegations. In a statement shortly after the story broke, a Fox News spokesman said: “Dominion mischaracterized the record, handpicked quotes lacking key context, and spilled considerable ink about facts that are irrelevant under the principles of the letter.” about defamation”. .
Dominion is suing Fox for $1.6 billion, accusing the company of promoting malicious lies that Dominion helped rig the 2020 election against former President Donald Trump. The case is due to go to trial in April.
