Xi Jinping is watching the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but has not yet made a final decision on the supply of weapons.
Chinese authorities are considering the possibility of supplying the Russian Federation with lethal weapons. However, no final decision has been made yet. This information was confirmed by CIA Director William Burns in an interview with CBS News.
“We are confident that the Chinese leadership is considering giving (Russia – ed.) lethal weapons,” he said.
But, according to the CIA director, China has not yet made a decision on this matter. For its part, he said, the Joe Biden administration is trying to warn Chinese authorities against making such a decision.
“We do not see that the final decision has been made and we do not see evidence of the actual delivery of lethal weapons. That is why it is clear that Blinken and the president have made explanations about the consequences of such a step,” said said Burns.
The CIA director is convinced that Chinese leader Xi Jinping is closely watching Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“No foreign leader has watched Putin’s experience in Ukraine, the development of the war more closely than Xi Jinping,” Burns said.
He also expressed confidence that what he saw was in many ways confusing and debilitating to him.
It will be recalled that CNN previously reported that China is inclined to send weapons to the Russian Federation. The final decision has not yet been made, but negotiations between Moscow and Beijing on the price and quantity of the equipment are ongoing.
