President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, State Duma deputy Vladislav Tretyak was included in the list of Canadian sanctions.
Together with Tretiak, another 128 people were added to the sanctions list, including former cosmonauts, deputies Valentina Tereshkova and Svetlana Savitskaya.
Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov called the expansion of the Canadian list of sanctions “the helplessness of the anti-Russian camp, which understands that it is impossible to defeat Russia.”
Tretyak was a hockey player before the start of his political career, he played at a professional level from 1969 to 1984, including participating in the Super Series between Canada and the USSR. Tretiak is considered one of the best goaltenders in the history of hockey. In 1989, he became the first Soviet athlete to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
Since December 2003 – Deputy of the State Duma of Russia of the fourth convocation. Since 2006 – President of the Russian Hockey Federation, he is a reserve colonel of the RF Armed Forces.
In the summer of 2022, the president of the Tretyak Ice Hockey Federation stated that “without President Vladimir Putin, the development of sports in the country would have stopped.” At the same time, the legendary goalkeeper remembered the 1990s, when all sports facilities were allegedly closed in Russia.
The boys came to the army and could not wring out … Thanks to Putin, everything returned. Today we have returned the sport. And today we are really a real sports state, – said the 10-time world champion in hockey.
