The US President believes that Ukraine does not need American fighters now, however, it is impossible to know exactly what the Ukrainian defense will need in the future.
US President Joe Biden said that “for now” he has ruled out sending the latest American F-16 fighter jet to Ukraine. He said this in an interview with ABC News.
So, answering the corresponding question of a journalist, Biden said: “No, now he (Zelensky – ed.) does not need F-16s.”
Asked if this meant that no fighters would “not” be sent, Biden replied that it was impossible to know exactly what the Ukrainian defense will need in the future, but “there is no basis on which, in the opinion of our military, can be justified the need to give up the F-16”.
“I’m ruling it out right now,” Biden said.
Note that former US Defense Secretary Mark Esper said that Washington should immediately move fighter jets to Ukraine to contribute to the counter-offensive.
