New weapons and critical ammunition stockpiles will boost Ukraine’s ability to repel Russian aggression, the Pentagon said.
The United States announced a new military aid package to Ukraine totaling $2 billion. It was reported on the Pentagon website on Friday, February 24.
This package, totaling $2 billion, is being provided through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) as part of our commitment to Ukraine’s long-term security.
The new weapons, as well as critical ammunition stockpiles, are said to boost Ukraine’s ability to repel Russian aggression.
The new US military aid package includes:
-
ammunition for MLRS HIMARS;
-
artillery shells of 155 mm caliber;
-
ammunition for laser-guided missile systems;
-
CyberLux K8 drones;
-
drones Switchblade600;
-
Altius-600 UAS drones;
-
Jump 20 drones;
-
counter UAVs and electronic warfare methods;
-
means demining;
-
secure communication equipment;
-
funding for training, maintenance and care.
It is indicated that, unlike previous deliveries, these weapons and ammunition will not be provided from warehouses of the US Department of Defense. Instead, Washington will buy them from manufacturers.
“This announcement represents the beginning of the process of awarding contracts to provide additional capabilities to the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the Pentagon said.
Recall that this week Joe Biden, during his visit to Kyiv, said that the United States would give Ukraine a new $500 million military aid package. Later, the media reported what exactly this defense package would include.
