The President of Moldova said that the country is now facing unprecedented security challenges.
Ukraine is not planning an invasion of Transnistria. This was announced on Thursday, February 23, by the Ministry of Defense of Moldova, writes the BBC.
They note that the Kremlin’s statements about a certain threat from the Armed Forces of Ukraine are just a “psychological operation” of the Russian Federation.
The publication recalled that the previous day, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Ukrainian saboteurs were allegedly organizing a provocation in Transnistria, posing as Russian soldiers. Thus, Ukraine allegedly wanted to create a pretext for an attack.
It was also reported that Moldovan President Maia Sandu, while visiting Romania, said that “some people want our country to collapse, and a puppet government serving the interests of the Kremlin to be established in Chisinau.”
Journalists recalled that Transnistria, which declared independence from Moldova in 1990, is a narrow strip of land between the Dniester River and the Ukrainian border. A large number of Russian speakers live there. There are about 1,500 Russian troops there.
Recall that on the morning of February 23, the Russian Ministry of Defense issued new charges against Ukraine. They claim that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are allegedly preparing “provocations” on the territory of Transnistria.
The President of the country, Maia Sandu, announced that the Russian Federation is planning to carry out a coup in Moldova with the help of opposition protests and with the participation of people with military training.
In this regard, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky announced his readiness to help Moldova in Pridnestrovie.
