An American official explained why Russia’s current relationship with Western countries cannot be considered a Cold War.
The current relationship between the West and Russia is not a new cold war. The cause of the conflict is the full aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, and not ideology. This was announced at a conference organized by The Atlantic magazine, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Thursday, February 23.
“This is a conflict between many countries and Russia in Ukraine, and it is not connected with ideology, like during the Cold War. It is not (opposition – ed.) Communism and the free world. So in this sense, I don’t consider it a Cold War,” he said.
According to him, the current situation in relations between the West and the Russian Federation should be viewed “as (confrontation – ed.) by the majority of the world, united in opposing aggression, in which Russia threatens not only Ukraine, but also. to world security.”
Remember, according to Blinken, the United States considers Russia’s decision to suspend participation in the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty to be irresponsible.
