The Svyatoshinsky District Court of Kyiv in a closed session found Ruslan Vyalshyn, a native of the Donetsk region, guilty of high treason under martial law, as well as participation in illegal armed groups.
According to the case file, on July 27, 2022, Vyalshin voluntarily came to the “military commissariat of the DPR” and wrote a statement that he wanted to be voluntarily mobilized.
He was appointed sniper of the 1st rifle squad of the 1st platoon of the 3rd company of the 1135th battalion of the “1st separate motorized rifle Slavic brigade of the DPR.” He received a Russian military uniform, berets, helmet, duffel bag, mug and bowler hat, as well as a Kalashnikov assault rifle, four magazines and 120 rounds of ammunition.
Vialshin is located in the village of Maryinka, Pokrovsky district, Donetsk region. For two months, the accused served in this position: he was on duty with weapons, he observed the movement of Ukrainian servicemen. At the end of August, his unit was transferred to the nearby village of Aleksandrovka.
On September 3, 2022, Vyalshin, together with nine other “DPR” militants, in accordance with the orders of their commanders, took up positions in a forest belt eight kilometers from the village of Maryinka, having received additional weapons and ammunition. However, the militant was taken prisoner the next day.
In 2018, Valshin was already in prison and tried once for participation in a terrorist organization. He joined the “DPR” in 2015, after signing a contract to serve in the “people’s militia”. He was appointed to the position of a driver, but due to a conflict with the company commander, the man quit at the beginning of 2016. Vyalshin returned to serve in another unit of the “People’s Militia of the DPR” at the end of 2017 in a similar position. On April 20, 2018, the Armed Forces of Ukraine took him prisoner.
The district court of the city of Konstantinovsky of the Donetsk region in August 2018 sentenced Vyalshyn to eight years in prison with confiscation of assets. On December 27, 2019, the President of Ukraine pardoned him to exchange him for citizens captured by Russia and the so-called “L/DNR”.
This time, Kyiv’s Svyatoshinsky District Court sentenced Vyalshyn to 15 years in prison with confiscation. The media said it was not yet known if he was reinstated as a result of the exchange.
Recall that the border guards of the Lugansk detachment captured a “Wagnerian” in the direction of Bakhmut after a Russian military group tried to break through the Ukrainian defenses.
