United States President Joe Biden reacted to Russia’s withdrawal from START.
The decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to suspend the participation of the aggressor country in the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty is a big mistake. The American leader is quoted by CBS News journalist Sarah Cook on Twitter.
This is a big mistake, – the American leader said, commenting on the decision of the Russians to suspend the latest agreement with the United States.
Recall, on February 21, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, during a message to the federal assembly, announced that Russia was suspending participation in the START-3 strategic offensive arms treaty, also known as New START, the latest arms control document between the United States and Russia.
The document for a period of 10 years was signed in 2010 in the Czech Republic, and the United States extended it on February 3, 2021. Negotiations between Moscow and Washington on a new START treaty were scheduled for November 2022 but were cancelled.
The agreement stipulates that each side will reduce its stockpiles of nuclear warheads to 1,550 units and to 700 units for deployed launchers—intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and heavy bombers.
