Russia plans to seize the airport in Chisinau and deploy its military there.
Such a statement was made on February 21 by the Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean.
There are several destabilization scenarios. They include several elements,” Rechan said.
One of the methods of occupation of Moldova is the capture of the airport in Chisinau.
In this sense, Prime Minister Recean mentioned President Zelensky’s recent statement, but assured that the Moldovan authorities are ready to face such challenges.
The fact that Russia intends to carry out a coup in Moldova, having previously captured the Chisinau airport for the transfer of troops through it, Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Die Welt.
He said that Moldova and Russia do not have a common border, so Moscow will be able to transfer the Russian military only through the airport.
Therefore, they want to use this airport and all the resources of Transnistria. Maia Sandu never asked for my help, but thanked for the information. She knows our situation very well. Ukraine will always be ready to help Moldova,” Zelensky said.
It was to this statement that the Moldovan authorities reacted.
Earlier, Rechan said that Transnistria (the so-called Transnistrian Moldavian Republic – PMR) should be demilitarized. The Prime Minister of Moldova stressed that the unrecognized Pridnestrovie should be “demilitarized by evacuating Russian troops and demilitarizing local residents.” After that, they will need to be economically and socially integrated.
He also recalled that the country assumed neutrality, but the Russian army is still in the Transnistrian region.
We declared ourselves neutral, but if someone tries to attack us, what are we going to do, take our bags and run? It is irresponsible to ignore the dangers and mislead the public that these dangers do not exist, Rechan emphasized.
Recean believes that Moldova is involved in a process that provides for an exclusively peaceful solution to the Transnistrian issue. This means that Russia must withdraw troops, evacuate weapons and ammunition.
Russia has pledged to do this, and more than once. We must make sure that Russia delivers on its promises. This means demilitarization,” the Interfax-Ukraine River Agency quotes.
He clarified that this was a task force of Russian troops, and not about the curtailment of the peacekeeping operation, which is taking place in accordance with the Moldovan-Russian agreement of July 21, 1992.
According to Rechan, the task force has more than 1,500 Russian servicemen who are on the territory of Moldova without legal grounds.
Russia has repeatedly confirmed its commitment to withdraw the remnants of the former 14th Army,” he said.
Earlier, Recean said that a hybrid war is going on in Moldova, where “Moscow is trying to capture democratic processes, the European course.”
In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov “recommended Moldovan interlocutors to be very careful about such statements,” noting that relations between the two countries are “very tense.”
Recall, Chisinau called on the EU to impose sanctions against “corrupt oligarchs and politicians, together with Russia, trying to destabilize Moldova.”
The Moldovan authorities hope to limit the ability of the oligarchs to “inject dirty money into domestic politics and pay protesters and potentially dangerous gangs to try to overthrow the government.”
