US President Joe Biden warned Russia against attacking NATO member states. During a speech in Warsaw, Biden reminded Russia of Article 5 of the NATO treaty.
There is no doubt that the commitment of the United States to NATO and Article 5 is unbreakable. Every member of NATO knows this, and Russia too: an attack on one attack on all. It is a sacred oath to protect every inch of NATO territory,” Biden said in Warsaw.
Recall that in 1949 the main task of the North Atlantic Treaty was to create a pact of mutual assistance in order to counter possible attempts by the Soviet Union to extend its influence to other parts of the continent, outside of Eastern Europe.
The Member States agreed that the Treaty should be based on solidarity – Art. 5 of this collective defense treaty was in fact the core of the military bloc.
This article assumes that an attack on one member of NATO is an attack on all its members and provokes a response from all member states of the Union. Decisions on the application of Art. 5 NATO accepts after consultations between the members of the bloc.
In the event of the entry into force of Art. The 5 NATO member states may provide any assistance they deem appropriate under the circumstances. This is the responsibility of each individual country, and each country will decide what assistance it considers appropriate to provide in each particular case. The nature of the assistance will depend on the availability of the material resources of each of the participating States. Therefore, each individual country will decide for itself what its contribution will be.
The US and Europe have never threatened the Russians, this war is a tragedy, not a necessity – Biden in Warsaw.
