The sixth aid package from Italy, in addition to the SAMP-T complexes, will contain Skyguard and Spike air defense systems.
Prime Minister George Maloney announced this in Kyiv.
We are providing the sixth military assistance package to Ukraine, focusing on air defense. The SAMP-T air defense system is very important, but there are other air defense systems in the new assistance package – Skyguard and Spike, Maloney said.
According to her, Italy is not ready to provide Ukraine with fighter jets and prefers to focus on weapons for defense, in particular, air defense systems to protect critical infrastructure.
Today, the strategic goal is to protect critical infrastructure,” Italian Prime Minister George Meloni said at a press conference in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Skyguard Aspide is a land-based short-range air defense system (up to 12 km) for air defense of certain areas or objects.
The complex can be used against airplanes, helicopters, as well as remotely piloted aircraft, including air-to-ground missiles. The Spaniards themselves indicate that their “Aspids” are designed both for “stationary” work and in defense of precisely strategic objects.
All means of the complex are made on towed chassis and can be quickly delivered to a given position.
Rakurs reported in early February that the Ukrainian military went to training with SAMP-T air defense systems.
