Aleksandar Vucic said Belgrade is now considering the possibility of acquiring Rafale combat aircraft.
Serbia to abandon Russian MiG fighters. Instead, Belgrade is considering acquiring French Rafale combat aircraft. This is what Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said, Bloomberg news agency reported on Monday, February 20.
He also promised to increase defense spending to modernize the country’s armed forces, including through the possible purchase of French combat aircraft.
Serbia can spend an additional 700 million euros on top of the defense budget, Vučić said. The funds will be used to modernize tanks, add 200 armored vehicles, combat drones and attract recruits to elite units.
The head of state added that the agreement to ensure the safety of Rafale aircraft from the French Dassault Aviation SA could cost another three billion euros if negotiations with the manufacturer are successful.
It should be noted that Belgrade intends to abandon the use of Russian MiG fighters, despite its loyalty to the aggressor country Russia.
Earlier, Vucic said that Russia should stop recruiting Serbs to participate in the fighting on the side of PMC Wagner in Ukraine.
