The Russians collect information about wind farms, internet cables and gas pipelines.
Russia collects data on power facilities in the Netherlands and may commit sabotage in the North Sea. This was announced on February 20 by the television and radio company NOS with reference to the head of the military intelligence MIVD, Jan Svillens.
He said that a few months ago a Russian ship in the North Sea was gathering information about wind farms.
“It was detected in a timely manner and repaired properly,” Swillens said, adding that the ship was diverted.
An intelligence official stressed that “the threat to the Netherlands is greater than it seems at first glance.” In addition to wind farms, Russia is interested in Internet cables and gas pipelines.
According to the country’s special services, “there are preparations for sabotage.” It is also possible to attack other important objects, such as drinking water supply points.
It was previously reported that the Netherlands expelled Russian diplomats-spies from the country.
