It is vital that the US unquestioningly supports Ukraine in its war against Russia’s brutal aggression, Joe Biden said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Joseph Biden will discuss the course of the conflict and further measures aimed at supporting Ukraine at a meeting in Kyiv. This was reported by the press service of the President’s Office on Monday, February 20.
Zelensky is said to have met with Biden at the Mariinsky Palace. After the introduction of the members of the Ukrainian and American delegations, the Presidents of Ukraine and the United States had face-to-face talks.
Zelensky noted that Biden’s visit is a very important sign of support for Ukraine and Ukrainians, and also emphasized that Biden personally and the entire American society have been with Ukraine since the beginning of the mass war unleashed by Russia .
“The first phone call with support for Ukraine was from the White House. Thank you for your leadership. Thank you also for bipartisan support, for support from Congress,” he said.
Zelensky said he will talk to the US President about the situation at the front, as well as about the Ukrainian people, who are going through a very difficult time.
“What must we do to stop the war, to be successful in this war, to make Ukraine stronger and how to win this year,” he said.
In this regard, Biden mentioned the importance of his presence today in Ukraine, which shows US support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“I think it will be critical to leave no doubt that the United States supports Ukraine in its war against brutal aggression,” he said.
The US President spoke about his intention to discuss how America and its allies can effectively help Ukraine in the struggle for freedom and independence. He also conveyed greetings from members of Congress. Biden said they were very impressed with Zelenskiy’s recent speech to Congress.
He also mentioned that he was glad to visit Kyiv again.
“A lot has changed since the last trip. Terrible things happened, the invasion, but at the same time, the Ukrainians showed themselves in a way that very few people showed themselves in their defense. And they helped we understand the meaning of democracy,” Biden said.
Recall that on the morning of February 20, Biden arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit. This is his first trip to Ukraine during his presidency.
Biden later announced that the United States would provide Ukraine with a new $500 million military aid package.
