As early as March 2023, the European Union may come to an agreement on the joint purchase of ammunition, which will be provided to Ukraine.
Estonia has put forward an initiative on ammunition, this issue can be discussed by the EU foreign ministers on Monday, February 20. However, the final decision may be made at a meeting of EU leaders scheduled for next month. The Estonian proposal has already been supported by the Netherlands and Romania. It is reported by Bloomberg.
As an idea, this is very good, because ammunition is a problem – Ukraine needs a lot, and we also need to increase our stocks, – said Dutch Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren during the Munich Security Conference.
And Romanian Defense Minister Bogdan Aurescu called such an initiative “interesting” but added that he has yet to study the details.
The authorities of France and Poland are also considering issues of joint procurement for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Recall that the NATO Secretary General rejected Ukraine’s demand to provide cluster munitions and phosphorus incendiary weapons. Although these weapons are banned in most countries, Russian troops do not hesitate to use them in Ukraine.
