The head of the defense department called the “huge” number of tanks to be transferred to Kyiv.
Berlin expects to deliver Leopard 2A6 tanks to Ukraine in the last week of March. This was announced on Saturday, February 18, by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, CNN reports.
He said Germany expects to take delivery of Leopard 2A6 tanks in the last week of March, and will have a “steady supply of tanks next month.”
Pistorius said he hoped more countries would agree to supply tanks to Ukraine. However, according to him, if you add German tanks, Abrams tanks from the US and Challenger tanks from the UK, then it is a lot.
“We have a large number, but we are still working with a large number,” said the German defense minister.
He also added that the defense industry of Germany and Poland will jointly produce ammunition and spare parts for tanks.
It was previously reported that Poland plans to transfer Leopard 2 tanks and PT-91 tanks (an upgraded version of the T-72) to Ukraine within a month or two.
Recall that Poland agrees to repair Leopard tanks for Ukraine if Germany transfers spare parts.
