If Ukraine has missiles firing at 150-300 kilometers, the Russian Black Sea Fleet will be forced to leave the peninsula.
The former commander of the US forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, believes that with long-range missiles, Ukraine can liberate Crimea before the end of the summer, and Donbass next year or even earlier. Hodges said this in a comment to Ukrinform.
“We will do everything we can to win Ukraine this year. It is possible, at least, that Ukraine will liberate Crimea before the end of the summer,” Hodges said.
At the same time, he emphasized that the liberation of Crimea in such a time frame is possible, provided that the partners provide the necessary weapons, especially high-precision long-range weapons.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine should be able to shoot at 150-300 kilometers and for the missile to fall exactly on the target, then the Russian Black Sea Fleet will be forced to leave the peninsula,” the general said.
Hodges also called Crimea a “decisive place,” while Donbass is simply “important.” He emphasized that Ukraine will not be safe and cannot use the port of Mariupol as long as Russia holds the peninsula. And even in Odessa there were 140 ships waiting for the opportunity to leave the port, but they could not.
“We must help Ukraine get Crimea back. This year. We want it to happen, and we must give everything we need,” Hodges said.
According to him, the rules of the war game will not change in any particular weapon, tank or aircraft, but the decision of the partners that Ukraine should win. Regarding tanks, he noted that Ukraine has its own, which it took from the Russian army, and Westerners. The Armed Forces of Ukraine use the entire arsenal of this tank very well, which will help to withdraw from the occupation of Crimea.
Earlier, the US State Department confirmed that Russian bases in Crimea are legitimate targets of Ukraine.
Recall that in the temporarily occupied Crimea, the partisans turned to the local population with a request to report to the places of accumulation of Russian troops.
