Heavy Leopard tanks will be handed over to Ukraine by the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.
In total, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive more than 100 tanks from these three European countries. This was announced on February 17 by Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte at a press conference after a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. The video of the event was published by the press service of the head of state.
Together with Germany and Denmark, we will provide a hundred Leopard tanks, and together with the United States and Germany, we will provide Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, he said.
According to Rutte, the Netherlands make a significant contribution to the supply of Leopards, provide the necessary equipment and crew training. The Dutch prime minister also stressed that everything necessary must be done so that Ukrainians can protect themselves from Russian aggression.
At the same time, it is not known when Ukraine will receive German-made tanks, but the Dutch side promises to do it as soon as possible.
Recall that the other day, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, after a meeting with colleagues from NATO in Brussels, said that the Western allies are trying to collect two full battalions of Leopard 2 tanks to be sent to Ukraine, as promised. However, Bloomberg writes that it will be difficult to achieve the required number of tanks, because only Germany and Portugal have committed to send the Leopard 2 in a modern version of the A6.
