Russia has built massive military installations on the peninsula, and the US supports their destruction.
Russian military bases in occupied Crimea are legitimate targets for Ukraine. This was announced on February 16 by US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, speaking at a virtual event at the Carnegie Center.
He recalled that the United States, like most other countries, does not recognize the annexation of Crimea and considers the peninsula as Ukrainian territory.
“Russian bases in Crimea are legitimate targets for Ukraine. Kyiv is hitting them, and we support it,” the diplomat insisted.
According to Nuland, Ukraine will not be safe if Crimea “is not, at a minimum, demilitarized.”
Earlier, The New York Times reported that US President Joe Biden’s administration is considering boosting Ukraine’s offensive capabilities and helping it strike Russian troops, including in occupied Crimea.
