The Secretary General of NATO said that before the big war in Ukraine, he had no doubt that Putin was ready to act.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told AFP what his night was like on the eve of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
He said he went to bed knowing that Russia could launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine within hours. Therefore, the news he heard a few hours later did not surprise him.
“I slept. But it was a very short night, because I knew that at some point, in a few hours, someone would wake me up – and that’s exactly what happened,” said the Secretary General of NATO.
Stoltenberg added that around 4:00 am he received a call from the chief of staff, who briefly stated that the attack had begun. The representative of the Alliance assured that this is not a surprise for him – he has no doubt that Putin is ready to act.
“One may be shocked by the brutality of the war. But one should not be surprised, because this was actually thought a few months before the invasion,” added the secretary.
Let’s add that earlier the NATO Secretary General spoke about guarantees for Ukraine. According to him, the country needs to be strengthened and re-equipped to an extent that it can resist further aggression.
