Ukraine will receive from the Netherlands 20,000 shells for German-made Leopard 2 tanks.
This is reported by the publication De Telegraaf, citing a statement by the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands Kaisi Ollongren.
It is very important. There is not much point in supplying only the tank. We must provide the complete package. In addition to training Ukrainian soldiers, ammunition and spare parts are needed, Ollongren emphasized. “Together we can provide what Ukraine needs.
It is noted that the Netherlands is the only member of the “tank coalition” that does not have its own tanks, so this country seeks to contribute in a different way.
Germany has already started training the Ukrainian military. It is not yet clear whether the Dutch specialists will join this and when exactly.
Also last week there was confusion over 18 Leopard 2 tanks leased by the Netherlands from Germany. The country had previously offered to buy these tanks and hand them over to Ukraine, but Germany reportedly blocked this.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said the Netherlands had not made an official request and stressed that the tanks ultimately belonged to Germany.
At the same time, Ollongren assures that there are no differences of opinion – it cannot be ruled out that the leased tanks may still end up in Ukraine.
I do not exclude anything, but now they are not in the plans,” she said.
