A diplomatic approach is being discussed for the removal of the Ukrainian military from the Azovstal underground bomb shelters, which are being stormed by Russian occupiers.
Authorities, together with international organizations, are preparing for the evacuation of wounded soldiers and doctors from the territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. This was announced on Saturday, May 7, by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in his video message.
“Thanks to the teams of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations, who helped us carry out the first phase of the evacuation mission from Azovstal. We were able to rescue more than three hundred people – women, children. In fact, we evacuated civilians from Azovstal. And now we are preparing the second phase of the evacuation mission – the wounded and doctors. Of course, if everyone complies with the agreements. The President also stressed that work is underway to withdraw the military from Azovstal.
“Maybe, we are also working to take out our military. All the heroes are defending Mariupol. It is very difficult. But it is important.

According to him, compliance with the agreements is necessary for the success of the second phase. However, no one can provide a 100% guarantee today.
