The German government will remove everything anti-covid restrictions still in effect from March 1 earlier than planned, with the exception of the use of a mask for visitors to hospitals and nursing homes.

Minister of Health, Karl Lauterbachannounced today the measure, adopted by consensus with regional health officials, in a brief speech in which he said the pandemic was slowly fading away from “terrifying”.

Although it has not yet completely passed, the virus can now be “mastered” in everyday life, said Lauterbach, known for his pro-restrictive and cautious stance on pandemic.

The minister claimed that there are currently few patients with images COVID-19 serious, therefore justifying the lifting of restrictions before the target date in April, with the exception of the mandatory use of a mask for those who visit hospitals and at home.

“Everything else ends on March 1 so that we can finally live a normal life,” said the Social Democrat minister.

Measures remain in effect

Restrictions currently in place include the use of masks for health care workers and residential buildings and for people living in the latter, as well as periodic mandatory testing for these groups and for hospital visitors.

In early February, another measure that had previously been in effect at the federal level was canceled – the application of medical mask for interregional transport.

Other restrictions for which the federal states are responsible, such as the wearing of masks on public transport or the mandatory five-day isolation for infected people, have also been gradually disappearing in the past two months.

According to the Robert Koch Institute of Virology (RKI), 21,632 new infections with the virus have been registered in the last 24 hours. COVID-19 and 112 deaths, and the cumulative seven-day incidence was 95.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

However, experts believe that the real figures are much higher, since official statistics take into account only the results of PCR tests, which are carried out only in individual cases. (EFE)
