Two women were rescued today after spending 204 and 205 hours, respectively, trapped in the rubble of buildings that collapsed in the explosion. earthquakes which devastated southeastern Turkey eight days ago, killing nearly 36,000 people in that country and Syria.
Isegul Bayir, 35, was reportedly found alive after spending 205 hours in the ruins of a building in Kahramanmaras, where the epicenter of the first 7.7 earthquake was located, and was taken to the hospital alive. broadcast live on various TV channels.
In the city of Hatay, another of the areas hardest hit by the aftershocks, a Syrian refugee was rescued 204 hours after the building she was in collapsed.
Already this morning, two young people were rescued after 198 hours under rubble in Kahramanmaras.
Rescue in destroyed apartments
According to official figures, more than 11,000 buildings collapsed during the earthquakes, many of which are multi-storey apartment buildings, where rescue work is very difficult (heavy equipment is required) and there are many casualties.
Risklayer, a German risk analysis company, has warned that the final death toll could be between 75,000 and 90,000, with Turkish experts putting the number up to 155,000.
