The CSTO countries “will have to choose a side” in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
This was stated on February 13 by the self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov.
If someone thinks that the conflict between Ukraine and Russia is not our conflict, which we will quietly sit somewhere, nothing like that. Let it not! The time will come literally tomorrow, when it will be necessary to decide, to take a certain position,” Lukashenka said at a meeting with CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov
The self-proclaimed head of Belarus told the CSTO Secretary General that the countries of the organization should determine their position on the war in Ukraine and “it will not be possible to sit quietly.”
But we have to find compromises. Although in the CSTO we discovered them a long time ago and act as a single organization. I think that we must go through this difficult period, and it will unite our organization even more on the principles that are necessary and possible for each state that is part of this organization. Let’s think about this together,” Lukashenka said.
Recall that the chairmanship in the CSTO in 2023 passed to Belarus. Earlier, Lukashenko said that this year the organization will be held under the motto “Because of solidarity and cooperation in peace and security.”
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO, Tashkent Treaty) is a military-political international organization that includes Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
