Ambassadors of EU countries will discuss a new package of sanctions against Russia this coming Wednesday.
EU authorities will impose sanctions against four Russian banks, including the largest private bank Alfa-Bank, as well as more than a hundred organizations and individuals. This was reported by Politico, citing sources on Monday, February 13.
Around 130 people and organizations will be included in the EU blacklist. They will be added to the initiative of Poland, Germany, France, Baltic States and other countries.
The sanctions include Russian military leaders, representatives of Russian-appointed “authorities” in the occupied territories of Ukraine, propagandists, companies and people from other countries associated with Russian military operations or PMC Wagner. In particular, in Mali and Iran, accused of selling drones and military equipment to Russia.
In addition, Brussels plans to include on the sanctions list a shipping company from Dubai, which is suspected of helping Russia evade oil export sanctions.
Also, the new package of sanctions will contain additional trade bans on the import of Russian rubber, asphalt or bitumen to the EU, on the export of EU goods to Russia, including trucks, other heavy vehicles, construction machinery.
The package also includes additional export bans on electronic components that Russia could use to make weapons.
In addition, the new package of sanctions will include a ban on Russian citizens from working for critical infrastructure companies in the EU, such as electricity grids or gas suppliers.
In turn, Radio Liberty reporter Rikard Jozwiak reported that the EU could adopt a 10th package of sanctions against Russia next week. According to him, EU ambassadors will discuss a new package of sanctions on Wednesday, February 15.
“Since there are no energy penalties, this package should be used next week,” the journalist wrote Twitter.
Earlier, the EU announced that the 10th package of sanctions would be ready on February 24, the anniversary of the start of Putin’s Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
It was also reported that the 10th package of sanctions will cost Russia 10 billion euros.
