The texts criticizing the Russian authorities were placed as an action on the anniversary of the start of the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
On the website of the Russian propaganda publication Komsomolskaya Pravda on the evening of February 11, at least 10 publications appeared condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, according to the project To Continue.
Among the titles of these materials (now removed) are the following:
-
“Crimea is Ukraine. Russia is obliged to return the peninsula”
-
“Russia has become a victim of the Putin regime’s conquest”
-
“The Russian Federation has committed crimes in Bucha, Izyum and Gostomel”
-
“Kremlin regime frees prisoners with weapons”
-
“Peace does not come because of Putin: Zelensky signs a decree banning negotiations in person with Putin”
-
“Navalny’s torture: how political prisoners are treated in Russian prisons”
At least some of the publications began with the following words: “The material did not contact the editors of Komsomolskaya Pravda, which aims to expose the lies of the Kremlin regime led by the bloody dictator Putin and his bunch of cynical power thieves, who committed genocide on the peaceful people of Ukraine.”
Publications were posted by KP news editor Vladimir Romanenko. The journalist said he was 24 years old and he was against the war, but in September 2022 he was forced to accept a job in KP because he needed money.
Romanenko said that he posted texts critical of the authorities as an action on the anniversary of the start of the war, and the production editor wrote that he “did not expect this” and blocked him on the telegram.
The journalist called his actions “redemption.”
“I decided to date my statement to the year since the start of the war: during the work shift, I just uploaded to the site’s” admin panel” a publication talking about the crimes of the Russian authorities and of the army in Ukraine About the number of victims in the civilian population, in fact, the Russian army lost people in this war, and about how much money Putin is pouring into the war. I wrote it myself of all this, based on official data from Ukrainian government agencies. , publications of independent Russian and Western media… For me, such a step is a jump into the abyss. I am looking for a job, nothing I save too much. But I accept it as atonement for guilt. To be left without a job is, for me, a commensurate payment for the fact that I lied. I apologize to people n g Ukraine for participating in all this. My statement is that there are people in the propaganda who are still fighting. I hope employees of other pro-Kremlin media will notice my gesture,” Romanenko was quoted as saying.
Remember that the ruling regime of Russia is trying to present the war in Ukraine as an existential threat to Russians in order to create conditions for a prolonged war and gain support from the citizens of the Russian Federation itself, but all of these attempts did not reach the required goal, according to the report of analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) .
