WASHINGTON (AP) – President Joe Biden on Thursday appointed Karin Jean -Pierre as White House spokesman, while Jen Psak will step down next week.
Biden also reinstated longtime Democratic strategist Anita Dunn as his senior advisor. He served in the Biden White House last year for several months after Biden was sworn in.
“Not only does Karin bring the experience, talent and good faith necessary for this difficult task, but she will continue to lead the Biden-Harris administration on behalf of the American people,” Biden said in a statement praising her. Jean-Pierre, who has been Biden’s deputy chief of staff since he took office.
Psaki, who will leave the White House on May 13, praised his successor and mentioned the importance of making history as a creator of history.
“She will be the first black woman and the first open LGBTQ + person to be a White House spokesperson,” Psaki said. “Representation counts and will give a lot of votes, but it also makes a lot of people dream of what is really possible”.
