The head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation is suspected of widespread repression

Oleksandr Bastrykin fulfills the role of the top military-political leadership of the Russian Federation to suppress the resistance movement in Ukraine.

The SBU reported suspicion of the head of Russia’s Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, advocating widespread repression in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. It was reported on the website of special services on Saturday, February 11.

It is indicated that in the course of investigative actions, Bastrykin’s activities in introducing an occupation regime in the temporarily occupied regions of the south and east of Ukraine were recorded.

“The officer fulfills the duty of the highest military-political leadership of the Russian Federation to suppress the resistance movement in Ukraine. In addition, Bastrykin publicly justifies Russia’s armed aggression and the seizure of parts of the eastern and southern region of Ukraine,” said the SBU:

According to the collected evidence, Bastrykin was charged with suspicion under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • intentional actions taken with the purpose of changing the territorial boundaries of Ukraine in violation of the procedure established by the Constitution of Ukraine, by a representative of the authorities (part 2 of article 110);

  • justification, recognition of the legal armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, launched in 2014, including the presentation of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine as an internal civil conflict, and recognition of the legal temporary occupation of the part of the territory of Ukraine, made by an official, using the media (part 3 article 436-2);

  • the rejection of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which began in 2014, including the presentation of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine as an internal civil conflict, and the rejection of the temporary occupation of a part of the territory of Ukraine , made by an officer, repeatedly (part 3 of article 436-2 ).

Earlier, Bastrykin said it was necessary to create an “international tribunal” in Ukraine for alleged “war crimes against the peace and security of mankind.” He proposed to involve other countries in the work of this “tribunal”, which “shows an independent position on the Ukrainian issue.” Bastrykin names Iran, Syria and Bolivia among them.
