So far, the military has not determined whether the object was just a “balloon” that flew at a potentially threatening height for civilian aircraft.

The US military on Friday, February 10 shot down an unidentified object over Alaska. This was announced at a briefing by White House spokesman John Kirby, reports The New York Times.

According to him, on the orders of President Joe Biden, the Pentagon shot down an unknown object over Alaska. It comes less than a week after a US fighter jet shot down a Chinese spy balloon over the Atlantic.

It was noted that while the military has not yet determined whether the object was just a “balloon” that flew at a potentially threatening height for civilian aircraft.

Kirby said Biden ordered the shooting of an unidentified object near Alaska “out of an abundance of caution.” According to him, the government does not know who owns the item and who sent it.

The balloon sank in the Arctic Ocean near the northeastern border of Alaska and Canada. The object flew over Alaskan land, then was shot down by a fighter.

Kirby emphasized that the pilots confirmed the object was unmanned before it was shot down.

A US official said there was “no confirmed sign of a military threat” to people on the ground from the facility.

It will be remembered that on February 4, the US military shot down a Chinese balloon that had been flying over US territory for almost a week. They say the machine is gathering intelligence.
