Oleg Voloshin, a people’s deputy from the banned OPF party, was informed of suspicion of treason.
According to the investigation, he publicly promoted Russian propaganda and carried out subversive activities against Ukraine.
He was also informed of suspicion for beating an ATO veteran in the summer of 2020.
The DBR and the SBU have established that in recent years, the people’s deputy of Ukraine, speaking from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, as well as in numerous interviews and broadcasts on television, disseminated propaganda narratives of the Russian Federation and carried out subversive activities against Ukraine.
His words distorted the actual state of affairs in the military-political life of the country, in social issues sensitive to people, and so on. According to experts, all of his speeches in the aggregate and in terms of general content are one of the forms of explosive activity. He was actually engaged in propaganda that contributed to the achievement of the political goals of the military-political leadership of the Russian Federation in relation to the Ukrainian state.
By doing this, he harmed the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability, defense capability, state, economic and information security of Ukraine, the State Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.
Voloshin was notified of suspicion of high treason (part 1 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
In addition, the deputy was informed about suspicion of causing intentional light bodily harm (part 1 of article 125 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) for beating an ATO veteran in the summer of 2020.
Investigative actions are ongoing, including seven searches at the places of residence of persons associated with the deputy.
What is known about Voloshin
Voloshin was born in Nikolaev. He headed the press service of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Russian Federation, later for three years under President Yanukovych he oversaw all the information work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Russian citizen.
In early February 2023, this people’s deputy of the Opposition Platform for Life Party, whose activities are banned in Ukraine, decided to draw up a deputy mandate and wrote a corresponding statement.
Voloshin was also a member of the editorial board of the pro-Russian channel 112 Ukraine.
In July 2020, within the walls of the Verkhovna Rada, the people’s deputy stated that Ukrainian sovereignty was “given completely to external control,” adding that Ukraine allegedly has no sovereignty and cannot restore sovereignty over Crimea.
Four days after these words, Voloshin was doused with green paint in front of the parliament building.
Since January 20, 2022, Voloshin has been under sanctions imposed by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury. The reason for this step is “participation in influence activities controlled by the Russian government with the aim of destabilizing Ukraine.” In addition to Voloshin, sanctions were imposed on three more people.
