All member states, including the Russian Federation, voted for the document, expressing “concern about maintaining peace and security in Ukraine.”
The UN Security Council unanimously supported the statement on war in Ukraine. On Friday, May 6, Reuters reports.
Thus, the Security Council approved the first statement of this body since the beginning of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Prior to this, the resolution was blocked by the Moscow representative.
The text of the said statement was outlined by Norway and Mexico.
“The Security Council expresses deep concern about the maintenance of peace and security in Ukraine. The Security Council expresses strong support for the efforts of the Secretary General (Antonio Guterres – ed.) Aimed at finding peaceful solution, “the document said.
The Security Council also recalled that “all Member States assume, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, the obligation to resolve their international disputes by peaceful means.”
It will be recalled that on April 26, UN Secretary -General António Guterres visited Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Two days later, the Secretary General arrived in Kyiv to speak with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
The purpose of Guterres’ visits was to discuss urgent steps to establish peace in Ukraine. During his stay in Kyiv, the Russian army shot down the center of the Ukrainian capital, killing people.
