The contract provides for the supply of 148 modernized, fully digitized battle tanks to the British Army from 2027.
The UK Ministry of Defense has agreed with Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) on the final design of the Challenger 3 (CR3) battle tank. This was reported by the press service of the department.
It is noted that the preliminary design review of the project was conducted in March 2022.
An £800 million contract between the UK MoD and Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land, signed in 2021, provides for the supply of 148 modernised, fully digitalized battle tanks to the British Army from 2027.
The tanks are equipped with:

a new 120 mm smoothbore gun using the most modern ammunition available worldwide;

a new set of sights, giving the tank commander improved targeting options day and night;

new armor;
-
active protection system;
-
a turret that can be mounted on the tanks of allied and partner countries
In addition, Challenger 3 tanks will have significant mobility thanks to an updated engine and a new hydro-gas suspension.
It was previously reported that the British government will send 14 Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine.
Remember, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba, in the first wave of aid from Western allies, Ukraine will receive 120-140 modern tanks. These are the Leopard 2, Challenger 2, M1 Abrams.
