Since the first earthquake, at least 285 aftershocks have been recorded in the country.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Turkey has already managed to arrange the evacuation of 12 citizens of Ukraine from the earthquake zone. This was said by Vasily Bodnar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Turkey, on Thursday, February 9, Ukrinform reports.
At the same time, he noted that 62 Ukrainians submitted requests for evacuation from the earthquake zone in Turkey.
“We have a request for evacuation and assistance of about 62 people. Yesterday, 12 people were evacuated with the help of our colleagues, acquaintances who have transportation there. So far, contact has been established with 96 people, citizens of Ukraine. Now we are waiting for information on another 22” – said the Ukrainian diplomat.
He added that the Ukrainian consuls had already left for Hatay province. They are carrying humanitarian aid and will also be ready to evacuate our citizens to safer provinces.
“There is information that up to five citizens of Ukraine may be under the rubble. But I think this is very preliminary information. And we will find out about it later, when they check the places of residence of Ukrainians,” the official concluded.
The largest earthquake in Turkey since 1939 with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred on February 6 in the southeastern part of the country, the epicenter was in the province of Kahramanmaras. This was followed by several more series of aftershocks, which continued on February 7.
Meanwhile, the number of earthquake victims in Turkey has risen to 17,406 people.
We noticed that the rescuers of Ukraine have not yet found living people while working in the rubble after the earthquake in Turkey.
It was previously reported that the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson agreed to hold a donor conference in support of the citizens of Turkey and Syria affected by the earthquakes.
