floods caused by heavy rains that hit Rio de Janeiro this week, led to alligators even some of the streets of this Brazilian city that surprised residents who are not accustomed to encounter this type of reptile during their daily trips.
Over the past 24 hours, heavy rains have caused the death of at least two people in the city, including a minor, and chaos in the streets due to floods.
Tuesday, four hours later Rio de Janeiro According to City Hall’s system, which measures rainfall in the city, it received 70% of expected rainfall for all of February.
Floods have caused the appearance of alligators in areas of the western and northern regions of Rio near areas with lagoons and mangroves where this species of reptile lives.
The surprise of the arrived individuals became known through social networks, which published photos and videos of reptiles freely walking the streets or swimming among the sedimented waters.
Residents on the alert
In one of the videos on Twitter, a child saves a calf alligator and in another, residents watch from their rooftops an adult “jacare” floating in the middle of a flooded street.
In the Kuricitsa area, in the western zone, it took firefighters more than an hour to catch one of these animals.
In these areas of the city, the reptiles usually surprise neighbors when it rains torrentially like the one on Tuesday.
