Deliveries of aircraft from the UK could take months, but there is an alternative, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace assured.
He ruled out the possibility of quickly providing fighter jets to Ukraine, citing the complexity of the process.
In an interview with the BBC, Wallace said that the delivery of the plane is “not a normal case of towing a plane to the border.” The minister clarified that there is an alternative to ensure air defense for Ukraine:
Britain knows what Ukraine needs and is very happy to help in many ways, trying to make an impact. The same effect can be achieved, but potentially in a different way – and without spending months on it, the minister said, referring to long-range missiles and drones.
Britain will not immediately supply fighter jets to Ukraine because air support for the troops can be provided through long-range missiles and UAVs.
Wallace noted that it would be “more realistic and productive” to assume that Britain would provide Ukraine with aircraft in the long term to ensure its security after the end of the war with the Russian Federation.
Recall that on February 8, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, after negotiations with Volodymyr Zelensky, said that he had instructed his Minister of Defense to consider the possibility of supplying combat aircraft to Ukraine.
