A monument to Soviet General Nikolai Vatutin was dismantled in Kyiv.
The monument to the Soviet commander was located in the Mariinsky park. Like the monument to pilot Valery Chkalov dismantled on February 8, it will be transferred to the Aviation Museum, the KSCA reported.
The dismantling of the monument was carried out by the Department of Urban Improvement of the KSCA. 10 specialists and 2 types of large-sized equipment were involved in the work.
Who is Vatutin?
He was a Soviet military leader and a hero of the Soviet Union. Most of all, he “famous” during the Second World War, when his inept command of the troops led to huge losses.
In 1943, the Dnieper was crossed, where they massively used black jackets – unprepared mobilized, who were not ready for battle and did not have proper weapons. Then they mobilized all the men in a row, including children aged 16-18.
In 1944, the motorcade in which Vatutin was traveling came under fire from UPA fighters. He was wounded in the buttock and subsequently died in a Kiev hospital.
