A shipment of cocaine worth approximately $316 million was found in the Pacific Ocean near New Zealand. This was announced on February 8 by the New Zealand police.
Commissioner Andrew Koster said it was one of the largest drug shipments found in the country’s history.
It was learned that more than 80 bales of cocaine with a total weight of 3.2 tons were suspended by buoys and drifted into the ocean. Some of the packages have stickers featuring Batman symbols and a black four-leaf clover.
According to law enforcement, the shipment from South America was likely destined for the Australian market.
A New Zealand Navy ship was used to transport the drugs found ashore. The cargo was transferred to Auckland for destruction.
Earlier it was reported that Spanish police seized 4.5 tons of cocaine worth $114 million from a cattle ship in the Canary Islands.
