Earthquake in Turkey: death toll exceeds 6,000

More than 37,000 residents of the country were injured. Search and rescue operations continue in the provinces affected by the calamity.

As a result of the strong earthquake in Turkey, 6,234 people died and 37,011 were injured. This was reported on February 8 by Anadolu Agency, citing data from the Emergency Management Agency (AFAD).

It was noted that the tremors led to casualties and destruction in the provinces of Kahramanmarash, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, Adiyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya and Elazig.

79,110 people were involved in search and rescue.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared seven days of national mourning for the victims of the natural disaster. State flags are flown at half-mast across Turkey.

Recall that on February 6, two strong earthquakes occurred in southeastern Turkey. Due to the elements, neighboring Syria also suffered greatly.
