Half of the funds will go to the defense of Ukraine, and the other half to civil aid, the Prime Minister of Norway explained.
Norwegian authorities plan to provide financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of NOK 75 billion (about $7.3 billion) over five years. This was reported by the Norwegian national broadcaster NRK on Monday, February 6.
It was indicated that today Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stere and Minister of Finance Trygve Slugsvold Vedum presented a package of aid to Ukraine at a meeting with faction leaders in the Norwegian parliament Storting.
“We propose to allocate to Ukraine 15 billion NOK (more than $1.4 – ed.) annually for five years. This is 75 billion ($7.3 billion – ed.). There is a proposal that this year 50% will be directed to the defense of Ukraine , that is, for military aid, and 50% for civilian aid,” said Stere.
The prime minister hopes to reach an agreement on the aid package by February 24, the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Earlier it was reported that the Norwegian authorities have prepared a detailed plan for long-term support for Ukraine, designed for five years.
It has also been reported that Norway’s largest sovereign wealth fund in the world will increase aid spending in Ukraine.
