British intelligence responded to statements by the Russian military about the official inclusion of the occupied territories of Ukraine into its Southern Military District.
This is stated in the intelligence review of the British Ministry of Defense, published on Twitter.
On February 3, the Russian state-run propaganda media TASS reported that the Donetsk and Lugansk “People’s Republics”, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, were coming under a three-star command headquartered in Rostov-on-Don. Earlier in January, war criminal Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the military expansion would include the creation of “self-sufficient groupings of troops” in Ukraine.
The move indicates that the Russian military is likely looking to integrate the newly occupied territory into a long-term strategic position. However, this is unlikely to have an immediate impact on the campaign: Russia is now deploying troops from all Russian military districts, commanded by a special deployed headquarters, the review says.
Recall that British intelligence sees signs that the scale of the involvement in the war in Ukraine of prisoners recruited into the Wagner PPK is gradually decreasing.
