Attempts by representatives of the Kremlin to convince the citizens of the Russian Federation of the existing danger of Ukraine have not succeeded.
The ruling regime of Russia is trying to present the war in Ukraine as an existential threat to Russians in order to create conditions for a protracted war and gain support from the citizens of the Russian Federation itself. However, all these attempts did not achieve the desired goal. This is stated in the report of analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Experts noted that in his speech on February 2 at a concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the defeat of the Nazi troops of the Red Army in the Battle of Stalingrad, the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, said that the country is again. faced with “a modern manifestation of Nazism.”
Putin used false historical analogies to draw parallels of “special military operations” in Ukraine with the German-Soviet war.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov both tried to make sure that the war in Ukraine posed a real internal threat, and that the long-range weapons provided by the West “require effort.”
Analysts note that Lavrov is promoting an ongoing information operation aimed at highlighting the fictitious threat of a Ukrainian ground attack on Russian territory to make domestic audiences more visible consequences of war.
All efforts on the part of Russian officials are not leading to the desired effect of inducing Russians to participate in the war, ISW added.
In addition, the State Services of Russia announced that since February 2, the acceptance of applications for new passports has been suspended. The lack of microchips for passports is partly a result of the mass application for foreign passports in 2022, partly due to an exodus caused by partial mobilization.
The surge in passport applications indicates that social training efforts to launch a “special military operation” in Russia and rekindle patriotic fervor are not having the desired effect, experts say.
Let’s recall that Putin called it “unbelievable” that the Russian Federation was allegedly threatened by German tanks.
