Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and international sanctions have undermined Moscow’s role as a reliable arms exporter. This is stated in the intelligence review of the UK Department of Defense, published on Thursday, February 2, on Twitter.
Russia’s share of the international arms market was declining even before the full-scale war. Now, faced with growing demands, the Kremlin will almost certainly choose to redeploy its military in Ukraine rather than supply it to its exporting partners.
British intelligence indicates that the shortage of components is likely to affect the production of equipment for export, such as armored vehicles, combat helicopters and air defense systems.
In addition, Russia’s ability to provide services to support existing export contracts, such as spare parts and maintenance, is likely to be severely impaired for at least the next three to five years.
Recall that in the summer, British intelligence said that Russia is unlikely to be able to fulfill some export orders for armored vehicles due to the exceptional demand for armament of its own forces in Ukraine and the growing influence of Western sanctions.
